Scholarships, Awards, and Contests

National Awards and Scholarships

The DAR offers several scholarships for graduating high school seniors, college, and graduate students in varied areas of study. Applicants are not required to be members of the NSDAR to apply.  There are scholarships based on merit; history, economics, government, and political science; medical and nursing; elementary and special education; law; and American Indians.  NSDAR Scholarships are open to all not just children of DAR members.

Chapter Awards and Contests

  • American History Essay Contest for fifth through eighth grades
  • DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship for high school seniors 
  • DAR Medal of Honor for citizens who have shown extraordinary leadership, patriotism, service, and trustworthiness
  • DAR Americanism Medal for naturalized citizens who have shown extraordinary leadership, patriotism, service, and trustworthiness
  • Junior American Citizen Contest for preschool to high school
  • Patriots Essay Contest for high school students
  • Women in American History Award for a woman who has shown an extraordinary contribution to American history
